MIND’S EYE Ends Season at Galaxy Cinemas

GUELPH, ON, April 27th, 2011 – Lynnvander Productions and Synn Studios is proud to present the world premiere advanced screening of the first season finale of MIND’S EYE. The entire first season will be screened leading up to the 24th and final episode of MIND’S EYE’S first season, effectually making it a feature-length movie.

The screening will take place at 7:30 pm on Thursday May 5th at the Galaxy Cinemas Guelph. Most of the series’ cast and crew will be in attendance, including the child actors who play the young heroes in the webseries, and series’ creators Thomas M. Gofton and Tom Roper-Brown. Tickets are available on the MIND’S EYE website at http://www.mindseyeseries.com/ for $10.50 each. Seating is limited, so those planning to attend are advised to buy their tickets in advanced. GET THEM HERE!

MIND’S EYE premiered last fall on November 26th for its first season, 24-episode run. In that time, the Guelph-produced series has developed a small but vocal following and has been picked up by webseries aggregates like Koldkast and Blip.tv. It has also become an award-winning series, garnering an Indie Intertube Award for “Best Show to Recommend to Your Mother,” and was one of only six Canadian-made webseries to be screened at the LA Webfest, where it walked away with three awards for Outstanding Theme Music, Score, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy series. And just this past March, MIND’S EYE was nominated for four Constellation Awards including Best Actor, Best Actress and Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television.

After the season finale is launched online on Friday May 6th, the minds behind MIND’S EYE will embark on a summer long tour of the series at comic and fan conventions from one end of North America to another, including stops in Calgary, Victoria, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Winnipeg, Austin and Montreal. Production on season two of the series may begin as early as Winter 2012.

Synopsis: MIND’S EYE follows the adventures of a young boy named Illia, and his school friends Mark, Elyssa, Patrick, Nadia, Darius and Koji. Little does Illia know, but his friends are actually magical beings called Dreamweavers. Centuries old, and armed with an incredible array of powers, The Dreamweavers protect Illia, who is really a prophesized Chosen One, from the forces of evil that want to exploit him, especially the evil Dolgrath. MIND’S EYE was shot on location in the City of Guelph through Guelph-based Synn Studios and Lynnvander Productions.

The Kids Are Alright

Today, members of the young cast of MIND'S EYE dropped by Synn Studios HQ to record their interview segments for the behind the scenes documentary of the upcoming DVD release for the second half of season one, and there's one thing we could all agree on: what a difference a year makes. It was almost a year ago that these six young people - Nathan Fryer, Aidan Harris, Nik MacMillan, Andrew Ellis, Lily O'Coin and Jodre Datu - first auditioned and sat at a table read for this thing we were working on called "Mind's Eye." So when we had them all in one place again, with their haircuts and their growth spurts and their general growing-up-ness, we knew we had to capture the moment...:

The 21st episode of MIND'S EYE airs this Friday on an intertube near you. And visit the MIND'S EYE website to learn how you can see the epic season finale, along with the entire first season, on the big screen at Galaxy Cinemas Guelph.

New Year, New Stuff From the Synn

Happy New Year, one and all. The year 2010 (the year we made contact – haha) was a very busy one for the Studio. Not only did we plan, shoot and launch our biggest project yet, the webseries MIND’S EYE, we filmed several new short films, participated in two 24 Hour Film Competitions, travelled to several conventions, and sponsored some major Guelph events like the General Hospital’s Black Tie Bingo and the Guelph Jazz Festival.

Now with 2010 behind us, and 2011 being barely a couple of hours old, we’ve already got a full slate to look forward to in the coming months. Here’s a sample:

  • Episodes 7-24 of MIND’S EYE
  • More stuff from the MIND’s EYE expanded universe
  • The short THE TRAP
  • New music from Mr. Soch
  • The fifth annual SharpCuts Indie Film & Music Festival
  • Thomas Gofton as Sir Harry in Royal City Musical Productions staging of Once Upon a Mattress
  • New music videos from Nameless KX and Josh Doerksen
  • Synn films in Local Focus 4
  • A tonne of other stuff we probably haven’t thought of yet…

Stay tuned here for more announcements in 2011.

Mind’s Eye Named one of 2010’s Best Webseries

SciFiPulse.net has come out with its list of the Top 10 Webseries of 2010, and Synn Studios’ co-production of MIND’S EYE came in at #9. Of the fantasy/adventure series, SciFiPulse’s Marx Pyle said:

“This fun and original idea is also family-friendly. They did what everyone suggests you never do by working with kids, doing visual effects and having fight choreography. They’re just missing animal wrangling.

“This Canadian fantasy web series premiered on Friday November 26th and is a well produced fantasy story with young talented actors and a transmedia approach with a planned pen & paper RPG and short stories posted online.”

MIND’S EYE joins such distiguished company as THE GUILD, RIESE and BITE ME on the site’s list of the year’s best web-based series. The cast and crew of MIND’S EYE are very appreciative of the endorsement, and you think you know where the series is going, don’t be so sure. On the MIND’S EYE site now check out the sixth episode “It’s Time” and to show your support for the series by buying some cool MIND’S EYE merch. Check out the episode 6 teaser below:
